Molybdenum Company of South Africa has been manufacturing the product MO-DI for nearly 60 years and is the only company in South Africa to specialize and focus on the production of molybdenised lubricants. #molylube moly lube moly grease
The Molybdenum Disulphide powder used in MO-DI products has been refined to assay 99% Molybdenum Disulphide, to be free of abrasive impurities, and to contain a minimum of oil and moisture. Its overall quality is considered to be superior to the rigid requirements of military specification Mil-L- 7866 (Aer.) Lubricant, Molybdenum Disulphide.
MO-DI products numbered 1–6, which are dispersions of stabilised and sub-micronised molybdenum disulphide powder in greases and oils, actually contain two lubricating films. That is (1) the grease or oil film, and (2) the film of the molybdenum disulphide content. These two films, plus the extreme pressure characteristic of the molybdenum disulphide, give MO-DI products a life span several times longer than the conventional single film lubricants. MO-DI products thus withstand far greater severities of shock, heavy loads, high temperatures and high speeds. These factors operate to extend materially the cycle of lubrication, and provide far superior protection to equipment against the possibility of wear.
Substantial economies in lubrication costs are made possible with these products through reduced application costs, reduced down time, reduced power requirement, and reduced wear of equipment. Due to the enduring qualities of Molybdenum Disulphide, moving surfaces will continue to be lubricated, long after normal lubricants have undergone degradation. MO-DI coatings are unique in some cases where liquids are involved, since the adherent of MoS2 is not washed away, thereby providing long-term lubrication.
MO-DI molybdenised lubricants are well suited for the prevention of galling and seizing even of the softest metals. As an aid in the assembly and dis-assembly of close tolerance components: as a lubricant in the hot and cold forming of metals. Mo-Di lubricants are effective from temperature ranges of –40F to 750F as an unsupported film, and up to 1050F when the film is being replenished as in any continuous lubrication system. In comparison with other lubricants, Molybdenum Disulphide has good chemical and thermal stability. Since no free sulphur is present, Molybdenum Disulphide does not attack metals as do lubricants with large amounts of free Sulphur. Under most conditions it gives protection against corrosion.
